Barry Manilow Scheduled for an Operation for Lung Cancer.

The singer has disclosed that he received a diagnosis with a cancerous growth in his lung and will be having surgery.

Spot Found in Initial Phase

The legendary 82-year-old artist, famous for his series of upbeat chart-toppers from "I Write the Songs" cemented his status as one of pop music’s most beloved entertainers, will have an operation to take out a section of lung tissue in an effort to treat the illness, which is at an early phase.

“As my fans are aware, I recently suffered from six weeks of a severe cough followed by a recurrence of another five weeks.

“Despite the fact that I was recovered from the illness and back on stage for my residency, my excellent physician insisted on an MRI just to be certain that there were no issues.

“The MRI identified a tumor on my lung that needs to be removed. It’s sheer fortune (and a skilled doctor) that it was found so early.”

Postponed Performances

He has postponed a number of upcoming live performances, but suggested he would be back on stage by Valentine’s Day for his longstanding engagement in Las Vegas.

He went on to say: “The medical team do not believe it has traveled and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis. So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiotherapy. Just chicken soup and favorite shows.

“I’m eagerly awaiting until I rejoin my second home in Las Vegas for our Valentine’s weekend concerts.”

A Long Career and Personal Life

Manilow is presently in his 16th year of a concert series on the Las Vegas Strip. The singer has been in the limelight and publicly identified as gay in 2017, after tying the knot with his manager and long-term partner privately in 2014.

The couple were in a private romance for over 35 years. In 2023, Manilow discussed how important his husband had been to him during his rise to peak fame in the 1970s.

“When my fame skyrocketed, it was just hectic. And, you know, coming home to an empty hotel room, you can get into a lot of trouble if you, you know, you’re by yourself evening after evening,” he said.

“But I encountered my future husband right around when it was exploding. And I no longer had to go back to those isolated suites. I had somebody to cry with or to share joys with.

“I desire that newcomers today don’t have to go back to those hotel rooms by themselves, because you can make poor choices. I never did. But it was quite isolating until I met Garry. And then it was fun.”
