Iran Reports Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Regional Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is unclear and the United States has not commented.
Airspace Engagements
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
