Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
