New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the player will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. Once more, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities released video stills earlier this week of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday morning about halfway between the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a baby.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in spring and was projected as a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
