President Trump Invites Loved Ones of Attacked Guard Members to White House
Former President Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to come to the White House.
He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Event
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Gatherings across the state have occurred in their remembrance.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a White House visit for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump addressed journalists. “And likewise with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Reaction
Community members came together over the past few days at the high school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that instructors wished for. She behaved with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the media. “She was kind, caring and always eager to help others.”
Service details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Actions and Government Revisions
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy caused the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and temporarily stop granting entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor the governor mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to visit Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with distinction, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had bravery,” the governor informed the crowd at the service. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
